For Rocksmith (+) (2014) on Consoles, Ubisoft's cable is a must...

For Rocksmith (+) (2014) on Consoles, Ubisoft's cable is a must...
If you want to play Rocksmith 2014 Remastered Edition on Consoles, the Real Tone Cable is a must.*To be clear, to connect a guitar to your PC, even for Rocksmith 2014 Ed. or Rocksmith+ Beta...(?), this Real Tone cable is NOT a must as far as I understand it, & without Rocksmith...just a connection to your PC...DO NOT use this cable. It's terrible! Do your research first, but I'm sure you can find higher quality for less money. For those like me with Rocksmith 2014 Remastered Ed. on Xbox Series x|s, Xbox One, &/or PS4, Ubisoft gives you the option of a Microphone Input OR their Proprietary Real Tone Cable 6.35mm to USB Input. To minimize lag, this cable is the best option as far as price is concerned. The cable is not without issues; this is the 2nd Real Tone Cable I've owned; but as long as Ubisoft keeps their software closed to 3rd party cables for consoles & if you want to have the best possible experience with Rocksmith, you're stuck with the Real Tone Cable. The cable does have lag - but the game has built-in calibration to adjust for the time delay (how much seems to vary; mine adjust to 25ms).The cable is not high quality & for both cables I've had, they eventually become quieter over time to skipping in & out.Fortunately, this problem is easily fixed for ~$5 & some basic soldering skill. Indeed; the defect rate based on the number of general complaints I've read about the cable, I'd suggest getting a basic replacement jack for plugging into your guitar, & possibly some Kapton tape (& a soldering iron & solder & wire strippers potentially). For instance, I purchased this cable in 2017 & I've had to repair it twice. Indeed, I just repaired it my second time here in the last 2 days. For a $40 cable you have to use, I suppose repairability is it's one upside. But, I also can't speak to the repairability of the in-line "analog-digital converter." What its defect rate is like?—I have no clue? So, Why 3-stars for the cable? Because when it works, it completes the Rocksmith experience. And that is something that is truly great. After owning my guitar for ~14 yrs., I gave Rocksmith another try in 2020 (I had some down time, like many others...), & it has actually made me a fairly proficient player since. Maybe moreso than that...? I play my guitar daily...now usually with a small amp instead, but still with my Xbox Series S every so often as well. The software works & when the hardware works with it, Ubisoft still has a cable I'm willing to tolerate because Rocksmith altogether is worth it in my opinion.*Note — Photos are of my most recent repair of the cable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Cable with Dented Packaging
Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2022
Picked one of these up to give Rocksmith+ a try while I’m between audio interfaces. My first impression when I opened it was that the packaging the cable came in had been tossed around a bit with some creasing and semi-ripped corners where it appeared as though it was opened at one point. Outside of the packaging though, the included cable has been functional and works for my needs.

If cross platform flexibility and convenience is something that you’re after I think this is definitely worth it. Being able to use the same cable on pc and consoles is nice if you were going to bring your guitar with you to play with friends or some such. There’s a bit more versatility here than in an audio interface in that regard.

If quality and recording is what you’re after, I would recommend spending some time looking into audio interfaces, but that’s just my two cents.

Technical
The dimensions of the actual plug do seem to run just a bit long, maybe somewhere between a sixteenth to an eighth compared to a general quarter inch audio cable. I also noticed that there’s a bit of an issue with how “snug” the cable feels compared to a typical audio cable plug as well, and it’s easy for it to “slip” out a bit. I’ll update if this becomes an issue, but so far it’s been fine.

Wrap up
Can it play Rocksmith/Rocksmith+ on multiple platforms? Yes.
Can it technically record? Yes.
Does it function out of the box? Yes.
